In the ever changing world of medicine, it is important to acknowledge the vast amount of knowledge a physician needs in order to best treat their patients. This type of knowledge comes not only from classroom sciences, but also the physician’s own experiences, which can come not only from patient interactions, but also from reading literature, listening to music, watching visual arts, and periodically reflecting on one’s own self image.
The Medical Humanities Scholars Program is a series of interactive lectures and discussions that aim to identify the core human values needed to become an effective and successful physician. Scholars will also gain a better understanding of current events that relate to medicine, and will be introduced to the impact of culture and arts on medicine. We hope you will join us on this exciting journey as we learn more about the many aspects of medicine and broaden our understanding of how to become an effective and well-rounded physician.

The ultimate goal of a physician is to achieve the pleasure of seeing the patient’s smile when they are treated with compassion. This course will help in forming perspectives on a number of current medical issues and pertinent global events.
It proposes that the arts and humanities offer different ways of thinking about human history, culture, behaviour and experiences which can be used to dissect, critique and influence healthcare practices and priorities.
You will enjoy learning how to be useful to mankind by providing complete and quality medical care at par with the best in the world to patients from all sections of the society along with creating awareness about medical conditions. We will also discuss how to address bigger issues and to commit to a life of self-care and personal well-being.
This scholar program will encourage you to build core values like respect for others, responsibility, integrity and empathy which show an aptitude for providing care to a higher standard. The course will also touch on medical portrayals in the media and you will have a chance to show off your artsy side with our final projects.
